Pointillism

A few years ago I stumbled onto using markers to create pointillism artwork. Originally the project was purely an exercise in stippling with pen and ink. One fateful day I had a student ask if they could do a logo or cartoon character and because of the simplicity of the source material I insisted they use color and crayola markers. It turned out way better than I even thought possible and since that time I have had most of my students switch over to that process. I also had to invest in more marker colors. Most of this piece was done with standard markers, but I believe the background was done with Blick Design markers, which were pretty inexpensive for design markers, but still on the pricey side if you need a lot of them. I generally pick and choose which students can use them based on their work ethic and potential. I also recommend a set of gray scale design markers and Crayola's Multicultural marker set for skin tones.
