Complementary Color Study

Interactive Journal

Set up four ovals on two pages of your interactive journal. I will have page numbers on the board. Make sure you update your table of contents in your interactive journal. You will trace the ovals from the sheet I provide for you that looks like the one pictured here. We use to use this sheet before we had interactive journals.

Draw a simple symbol in each of the ovals. You will see some of my recommendations in the pictures here. Any symbol will work as long as its one line with no interruption.

Be sure to label each oval with one of the complementary colors schemes. The fourth oval with be neutral colors, black and white. Draw a simple symbol in each oval.

After you draw the symbols add 5 lines going the same direction and one line going the opposite direction.

Label the spaces before coloring

When you color start with one of the compliments, say red. Then color every other space the other complement, green. Diagonally you should always have the same color. Here I marked each space with "R" for red or "G" for green. I will demonstrate this on the board if you still need help.

Instructional Example

In this example I used the Nike logo, Underarmour Logo, the LV, and a skull and cross bones. The skull and cross bones are tricky to set up. Ask me and I will show you how to draw it so that it does not cause errors.

After you draw the symbols add 5 lines going the same direction and one line going the opposite direction.

DC hero symbols

the Wonder Woman symbol did not work very well, and that is due to having multiple shapes.

Marvel symbols

The Avengers symbol has a straight line for the side of the "A" on the right side, because I used straight lines going the same direction for my five lines it makes it hard to clearly see the symbol.
